Telegram Login Code Not Arriving? Causes and Fixes That Work
Telegram works differently from most apps. If you are already logged in elsewhere, the code usually arrives inside Telegram on that device, not by SMS. Many people wait for a text that was never going to be sent.
Where the code goes
- To the Telegram app on a device where you are already signed in.
- By SMS to the phone number, if no active session exists or you ask for it.
- By phone call, if you choose that option.
Fixes in order
- Open Telegram on your other device and look for a message from the official Telegram chat.
- Tap the option to send an SMS instead.
- Check the country code and number.
- Try the call option.
- Wait the full timer and avoid many retries.
Common reasons for failure
- Too many attempts in a short time causes a temporary block.
- Poor signal or blocked unknown senders.
- A number that Telegram does not accept for registration.
Using a virtual number
Some people test with a virtual number, but acceptance is decided by Telegram. If the account matters, do not tie it to a temporary number, because losing the number can mean losing access.
Protect the account
- Turn on two-step verification in Telegram.
- Never share the login code with anyone.
- Review active sessions regularly.
What not to do
- Do not share the code with anyone who says they work for Telegram.
- Do not enter the code on a website you reached from a message.
Check sessions
In Telegram settings, review active sessions and end any you do not recognise. This is the quickest way to find out if someone else is logged in.
Questions people ask
