Why the Site Field Matters on Server 2 Temporary Email

Why the Site Field Matters on Server 2 Temporary Email

Of all the fields on the Buy Email page, the website box looks the least important. It is actually the one that controls everything below it. Get it wrong and you pay for an address that was meant for another site.

What the site field does

Server 2 sells a mailbox for a specific website. The stock of addresses and their price are set per website. Type instagram.com and you see the list for Instagram. Type telegram.com and the list can be different, both in which domains are offered and in what they cost.

An example

At the time of writing, the Telegram list showed email.com, gmx.com and mail.com at about PKR 1.54 each, Hotmail and Outlook at about PKR 1.75, the Yandex family at about PKR 5.15, and Gmail and iCloud at about PKR 10.29. Another site can show different numbers. That is why the field exists.

The API default is a trap

In the API, if you leave out the site parameter, telegram.com is used. So an integration that forgets the parameter can buy an address priced and stocked for Telegram while you register on a different site. The fix is simple: send the same site in the services call, the price call and the buy call.

Clean input

  • Use the bare site name, for example instagram.com.
  • A full URL is accepted and reduced to the domain, but keep it simple.
  • If the site is invalid the API replies with a 400 error.

Rules of thumb

  1. Always type the website where you will actually register.
  2. Check the list for that site before you buy.
  3. Use the same site value in every call.
  4. After the purchase you only need the email_id.

A mistake that costs money

Imagine you build a script for one website and later reuse it for another but forget to change the site value. Your script keeps buying addresses priced for the first site. The addresses may still work, but you could pay more than needed, or the domain may not suit the new website. The safest habit is to keep the site as a variable at the top of your script and send it in every call.

What to do if a domain is missing

If the domain you want is not in the list for your site, it is not offered for that site right now. Pick another from the list. If you need that exact domain, check again later, because stock changes.

Questions people ask

Does Server 1 use a site field?

No. Server 1 asks for a domain and a service code such as ig or tg.

What happens if the domain is not offered for my site?

The API replies with a 404 and the message says the domain is not available for that site.
